Zagreb: Arrival, information and city transport
Zagreb's central train station , or Glavni Kolodvor, is on Tomislavov Trg, on the southern edge of the city centre, a ten-minute walk from Trg bana Jelacica, the main square. The main bus station is a fifteen-minute walk east of the railway station, at the junction of Branimirova and Drziceva - trams #2, #3 and #6 run to the railway station from here. Zagreb's airport is about 10km southeast of the city, connected with the main bus station by a half-hourly Croatia Airways bus (6am-8pm, at other times services run to connect with flights; 25kn).There are two tourist offices in central Zagreb; the main one is at Trg bana Jelacica 11 (Mon-Fri 8.30am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 10am-2pm; tel 01/48-14-051, www.zagreb-touristinfo.hr ) and the other is at Trg N. Zrinskog 14 (Mon, Wed & Fri 9am-5pm, Tues & Thu 9am-6pm; tel 01/49-21-645). Both have maps, up-to-date leaflets on events, and can help out with general queries, though neither arrange accommodation.
Zagreb has an efficient and comprehensive public transport network of trams and, to a lesser extent, buses, though much of the city centre can easily be seen on foot. For both buses and trams within the central zone, there's a flat fare per journey of 5.50kn; tickets ( karte ) are sold from cigarette and newspaper kiosks. Day tickets ( dnevne karte ) cost 15kn. Validate your ticket by punching it in the machines on board the trams. The train station and Trg bana Jelacica are the two main hubs of the city transport system.
