The Sofitel Capsis Palace is a modern resort hotel located just 200 metres from its own private beach, next to the fishing village of Agia Pelagia on Crete's northern coast. The 450 air-conditioned guestrooms, over three floors, have light decor with sliding glass doors leading on to balconies. They are equipped with satellite television, direct-dial phones and minibars. Bathrooms have telephones, bathrobes and slippers, complimentary toiletries and hair dryers.
The hotel is set in landscaped gardens with waterfalls and its own private zoo; there is a bar with a terrace overlooking the hotel's private beach. Guest can work out in the fitness centre, try a new style at the hair salon or go for a swim in one of the pools, while the little ones are kept amused at the kids' club. In the evening guests can relax at the bar, enjoy live entertainment or dance the night away at the nightclub, while other practical amenities include an ATM, a shopping arcade, a jeweller, a 24-hour front desk with concierge services, all-hours room service and free parking for those arriving by car. The hotel's El Greco Restaurant features a veranda with panoramic views and live piano music, and offers Greek and international cuisine with vegetarian options. It is open daily for champagne breakfasts and dinner with piano music, or guests can try The Poseidon Taverna, a traditional Greek restaurant on the beach serving seafood and Cretan specialities. The hotel is well placed for exploring the island and all its sights; the Minoan Palace of Knossos is 28 kilometres from the hotel, and the Old town and Fortress of Rethymnon can be found 50 kilometres away. Heraklion Airport is 25 kilometres from the hotel, an approximate driving time of 30 minutes.

The best way to get around Crete is by rental car or bike, although buses go to most places throughout the island. The Cretan bus company KTEL has stations in all the larger cities and stops all along the routes. Many locations are also accessible by ferry and boat taxi. Taxis in Crete are reasonable but visitors should make sure the driver uses the meter.
